What you've said agrees with what I think - I am always a stickler for
"proper practice" as I have done some editing of various kinds in the past -
but I wanted to check more widely about current thinking. I have had varying
responses from editors, from the laissez fair to the very strict, in the
past.
The matter of competitions is different again, though closely linked. I
always follow competition rules to the letter - why have rules if they
aren't to be followed (plus the issue of legal implications/challenges if
something wins that did not conform - I used to run the NSW Premiers
Literary Awards so am well aware of those issues - especially in the light
of recent controversies in Oz about winners of awards).
I will pass you comments on to the person who raised them.
