Hello Joy,
Found your e-mail address by accident (no idea I had it, but I wasn't going
to share a room with anyone), while cleaning up on my first real day at work
after holidays (I, of course always work, but enjoyed some time away - I was
in the Hannover Expo among other things).
Unfortunately no drink and no good bye in La Clusaz. From your 'wife' I
understood that you collapsed while I was on top of the mountain. It was
even quite an adventure with explosions going on around us (we were not
supposed to be there, but didn't care) and finally lost our way when trying
to make a short cut down. It became very steep, but that speeded the whole
excursion up, so that we were back for the lunch that you missed.
I started reading Bergson, but not the book that you recommended, because I
couldn't find it (but I will eventually). The thing I originally wanted to
tell you and test your reaction on is the notion of project (somewhat
vague); but I think that all things are becoming projects one way or
another. It means a move away from engineering towards a more cultural
content (+ risk) and a different type of imagination and creativity. More
like film - I sometimes agree with certain aspects of Baudrillard, but find
him a bit superficial. I want to work that out for the publication that Dick
(your boss) wants, but would like your critical comments. Simply because I
was impressed by the kind of intelligence that you represent. So if you are
a bit patient, you'll receive e-mail messages from me with that kind of
content and I would appreciate it if you would read them critically. Deal?
My ambition is to at the same time get rid of this ridiculous Donald Schon
notion of practice that people keep on referring to that have never had any
practice and I would like to replace it with project (I go completely nuts
about this practice shit). I already have my foot between the door for
organizing the Japan conference in that way (but don't tell anybody). I
count on it that you can keep a secret!! I'm letting you in on it, because
it happened during a drink with the Japanese guy who came to sit with us
after that your bunch left while the Australian and I were planning our hike
up the mountain (remember?). Well he asked my advice how to do it - so I
told him. I'll try to organize Nokia to help finance it. This replaced the
drink I thought I would have with you. So, not bad after all. Let's see if
I'll succeed.
Hope to hear from you
