Hi Paul,
Bearing in mind the problems that have emerged so far in the literatures of
design research and design theory that are created by 'loose language' I
feel its important to be careful. In this case, I suspect that there is some
care needed to differentiate between 'inter-disciplinary',
'cross-disciplinary' and 'multi-disciplinary'. Each are different, and
information and skills from other disciplines are used in a different way in
each. Each approach locates different aspects of design research, design
theory and design practices differently.
Best wishes,
Terry

Subject: design or interdisciplinary research
Hi all
I was recently at a one day conference on inter-disciplinary research
where a group of geographers and environmental researchers gave a
definition of interdisciplinary research (which incidentally they
arrived at after brainstorming sessions). Their definition was this:
"It is eclectic and integrative. It uses different disciplines to solve
complex problems. It is holistic, fluid and adaptable."
What an excellent definition of design research!!
Paul
