While the Ted Hughes thought fox offers a relatively sophisticated account of the
act of creation, it is still very much a naive account offered up for non-poets - I
suggest. There are much more acute versions of the same. My point here is that
clients, whether they are poets or manufacturers, seek quantifiable deliverables
according to how they have come to understand the servicing of their desires. Going
beyond or around such expectations requires the skills of the poet, and yes, these
are mostly negative.
Paradox, (see OED= contrary to received opinion or expectation, f. past, beyond,
contrary to + opinion; in Gr. and L. ) is just one of the skills of the poet - the
snow flake is in the eye before the eye sees it and yet this can be apprehended (see
Wallace Stevens).
Perhaps the poets should not try talking with the non-poets and perhaps they should
just politely deliver their quantifiable deliverables. The set of such exceeds all
understanding?
