in post-war Polish socialist realism

Following recent success in securing a major award from the UK Arts and
Humanities Research Board, the Music Department at Cardiff University has
established a two-year research project: 'The Dark Decade: the Struggle
for Music in Poland, 1945-1955'. The director of the project is Professor
Adrian Thomas.
Applications are invited for a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW. The post is
tenable for two years from January 2001 and will be on the Research Scale
1A, up to point 6 (cuurently #18,731 per annum). Candidates must have
native or near-native knowledge of Polish and English, and must have, or
be about to be awarded, a doctorate in an area of twentieth-century Polish
cultural or historical studies. Preference may be given to candidates
with experience in post-1945 Polish literature, visual arts, politics or
sociology; some knowledge of twentieth-century European music will be an
advantage. A proven track record in research or demonstrable research
potential is essential. The successful candidate will be based in
Cardiff, but the project also involves archival work in Poland.
