Turner and Newall
I have done a small amount of research on Turner and Newall since they
were had one of the sites on the Greenwich Peninsula.
The Greenwich Works was orignally Bells Asbestos and moved to Greenwich
from Southwark. Their head office at 59 Southwark Street is still there
and has a 'bell' motif over the door. After 25 years at Greenwich they
moved to Harefield, Coppermill. in 1935 they l went to Erith.
I understand there is a book: Harefield's Turner and Newall Ltd. The
First 50 Years. Which I haven't seen. In 1970 they were Turners
Asbestos Cement Co. and, I understand, had a factory at Widnes
I would be quite interested in knowing more about them. When I wrote
the book about the Greenwich peninsula there were a number of industries
I didn't have time to research and this was one of them.
