Quite a few coal mines had 'Managers Bikes' which were used on
underground tours by the Manager. The last deep pit in Shropshire,
Granville Colliery had such a bike, although I gather when the pit close
din the late 1970's the bike had not been used for a number of years and
nobody seems to know what happened to it.
It could be 'dropped' onto the rails when the manager went on
inspections - I understand there may have been more than one available
if the manager planned to go into workings below haulage inclines.
