Applications are invited for two posts to strengthen research and teaching
excellence in an ambitious Sociology Group. At least one of these posts is
earmarked to enhance the Sociology of Culture, Media and Communications within
a research grouping which also has acknowledged strengths in science and
technology studies, social theory, and health & disability.
Applicants for the first post should have an established international research
reputation and should be able to provide academic leadership within Brunel
Sociology. Applicants for the second post should have either a developing or an
established national reputation with a track record in publication.
The appointees will join a strong, lively, interdisciplinary Department with
high RAE ratings (Social Anthropology: 5; Sociology: 4*; Psychology: 3a) and
top HEFCE teaching quality assessments (Social Anthropology, Sociology and
Psychology all rated as “Excellent”).
Starting date: 1st September 2000. For the first post, salary will be on the
Professor/Reader/Senior Lecturer scale, minimum £31,563 per annum plus London
Weighting of £1,462 per annum; for the second post, salary will be on the
Lecturer/Senior Lecturer scales, £17,238 to £35,670 per annum plus London
Weighting of £1,462 per annum.
