We (ED/N-2) have been accepting requests (and chasers/renewals) by
e-mail for some time and are happy to continue. Just one word of
caution, perhaps - ensure that, if the e-mail addresse(s) used belong to
an individual staff member, that others can check the mail in that
individual's absence (assuming there is someone else, of course!). We
have a non personal e-mail address for incoming requests ([log in to unmask]) to
avoid potential 'invasion of privacy' issues and all staff can access it
to retrieve requests, etc.
Folk may be interested to know that IFLA has produced guidelines for
sending ILL requests by e-mail - see
http://www.ifla.org/VI/2/p3/g-ill.htm . Whilst intended for
international use it provides a useful general pattern as well.
