Several people have responded to this already but here's my two
pennyworth. We don't manipulate the hours open table to force overnight
loans but changed our "short loan" period to 24 hours some time ago, so
all short loans are overnight loans.

Some time in mid-Release 12 we noticed that short loan books checked out
just before the library closed on Friday night were due one hour after the
library opened on Saturday (less than 24 hours). Friday evening is the
only time in many branches when the loan period of 24 hour loan books is
actually longer than 24 hours because the library closes at 5 pm on
Saturday. It became known as the "Friday evening bug" until some time
later we found that the problem occurred not only on Fridays but when an
item was checked out when the library was closed according to the hours
open table. (The first time the problem was reported some books were
checked out exactly at 8 pm just as the library was closing.)

If an item was checked out during the library's closed hours, INNOPAC did
not seem to set the due time first according to the loan rule and then
check if the library was open, but was setting the due time one hour
after the library next opened without trying to set the due time using
the loan rule. This also affected renewals, so if a patron checked a
short loan book out on Sunday at 4 pm (with the due time on Monday at 4
pm) and self-renewed it on Sunday night at 11 pm, the new due time was
brought forward to 10 am on Monday!

This may be a complete red herring but it's one of those bugs which
appeared one day and took months to get fixed.
