Hi Everyone,
This is just a very brief message to very briefly introduce myself as the
list owner and to welcome you all. I'm sorry that I haven't been in touch
before now - I never expected the list to become so popular, so quickly! Dr
Julia Leslie (Director of the Gender and Religion Research Centre at the
School of Oriental and African Studies) and myself (as Research Assistant
of the same Centre) are delighted to see so much interest in the area. I
will be your contact for any administrative/technical problems you have
with the list and Julia will be the academic moderator. We will send a
message to the list soon regarding netiquette etc., and the kind of focus
we intend for the list to have (obviously this will be something negotiable
with the list!)
A number of you have asked about whether a digest option is available on
this list. I am investigating this at the moment and will get back to you
asap. I believe that an archive will be available and will let you know
about this as well.
A little about myself: I'm a second-year PhD student in the Department of
the Study of Religions at the School of Oriental and African Studies,
University of London. I am researching Goddess and Serpent mythologies,
looking at the cultural strategies embedded in these narratives from a
French-feminist/post-structuralist perspective. I am also involved in
teaching religion and gender in the department, assisting Dr Julia Leslie,
and am working in the GRR Centre as the RA.
It's wonderful to see so many interesting people on this list - happy
talking!
Sian
