The 1st Meeting on Speech Technology 2000 will be held in Sevilla, Spain,
from the 6th to the 10th of November. The meeting is open to researchers
and students interested in the study of speech from a multidisciplinar
perspective: engineering, computer science, psychology, linguistics. The
majority of Spanish research groups in the field are present in this
event. The meeting has been organized by the University of Seville and the
University of Granada.

Activities are divided into lectures and presentations in the following
areas of research:

- Speech Recognition
- Dialogue Systems
- Speech Processing
- Speech Synthesis
- Speech Perception and Production
- Dialogue Analysis
- Speech Analysis

Different companies will be present in the meeting: Telefonica R+D,
Philips Speech Processing, Infospeech and IBM. They have sent researchers
who will share their experience in the field of speech applications with
the rest of researchers and attendants in different lectures and
presentations.

Prezado(a) colega:

Temos o prazer de convida-lo a participar do VI Congresso Nacional de
Fonetica e Fonologia, que se realizara nos dias 27, 28 e 29 de novembro de
2000, na Universidade Federal Fluminense, Niteroi - RJ, no Ambito do
Convenio de Cooperacao Internacional entre a UFF e a Universidade de
Strasbourg. Esse evento, promovido pela Sociedade Brasileira de Fonetica,
tem o apoio do Departamento de Letras Classicas e Vernaculas, da
Pos-Graduacao em Letras e do GT de Fonetica e Fonologia
da Asssociacao Nacional de Pos-Graduacao em Letras e Linguistica (ANPOLL).

O tema central do Congresso e Fonetica e Fonologia: ensino e pesquisa e as
comunicacoes poderao abordar as diversas areas dessas disciplinas e das
ciencias afins. Como indica a Ficha de Inscricao, esta prevista a
participacao de congressistas como ouvinte e como apresentador de
trabalho. Neste caso, alem de proposta de Comunicacao Individual, estamos
tambem recebendo sugestoes para Mesa Redonda e Sessao de Comunicacao
Coordenada, reunindo um maximo de 4 (quatro) trabalhos.
Para se inscrever como ouvinte e preciso apenas preencher a Ficha de
Inscricao no VICNFF e envia-la, juntamente com o pagamento da taxa
correspondente a categoria em questao, para o endereco que consta dessa
Ficha. Porem, para se inscrever como apresentador de trabalho e

Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences (ESB-CAA accredited) invites

Qualifications include an earned doctorate in speech-language pathology,
speech science, or related area. Expertise in Speech Sciences
(acoustics, perception, production of speech) is preferred, but other
areas of expertise will be considered. Applicants should demonstrate a
publication record and have favorable teaching evaluations commensurate
with experience. Post-doctoral training and CCC-SLP are preferred. The
successful candidate must provide evidence of research productivity, and
demonstrate the potential to establish an independent research program
capable of attracting external support.

Responsibilities include conducting research, teaching undergraduate
and graduate courses, mentoring graduate students, and participating
in departmental and university activities.  Salary is negotiable,
depending upon qualifications and experience.

The Center for Human-Computer Communication at the Oregon Graduate
Institute (OGI) has an opening to announce:

Research Assistant ~ Linguist

The research assistant will participate in a multidisciplinary,
team-oriented research project investigating users' spoken, pen-based,
and multimodal input to interactive computer systems.

Applicants with a background and interest in linguistics, especially
in prosodic analysis of spoken dialogue, are strongly encouraged to
apply, although candidates with a background in cognitive science,
psychology, human factors/engineering, or computer science also will
be considered. Candidate must be experienced with speech signal
analysis, including collection and preparation of speech data, use of
speech signal analysis software, and speech signal analysis
conventions. Experience testing and interviewing human subjects
(including children), scoring and analyzing language-oriented data,
using data analysis/statistics software, and performing basic
programming for experimental support also are relevant skills for this
research position. Experience with MS Word for text processing,
database programs such as MS Access, graphics software (Illustrator,
Photoshop) for preparing publications, and HTML or web design would be
a plus.

RESEARCH AND TEACHING POSITIONS IN SPEECH AND DIALOGUE PROCESSING

Five positions are open at the speech and multimedia communication
(SMC) group at the Center for PersonKommunikation (CPK), Aalborg
University, Denmark.

SMC conducts research and teaching focussed on multimedia
Human-computer interaction processing with emphasis on speech
recognition, speech synthesis, and spoken dialogue systems in
real-world applications.The SMC group is presently looking to fill
research/teaching positions in the following areas. All positions are 2-3
years
duration, with annual renewal of the university employment contract.

1 (two positions, open immediately):
Work within the speech recognition group on algorithms for acoustic
modelling and noise-tolerant ASR, with an eye to improving performance
in rejection out-of-vocabulary input. We are currently involved in
collaborative work in these areas.

2 (two positions, open immediately): Spoken and multi-modal dialogue Systems.
The first position focuses on design, integration and evaluation of
spoken-dialogue applications in the (wireless) telephone network. Part
of the work is carried out in an EU project in close collaboration
with industry. The second opening is a two-year assistant lecturer position,
focussing on teaching and research activities in multi-modal
human-computer interaction, especially involving spoken
communication. The teaching load will cover approximately two-third of
the time. Teaching will be combination of student project supervision
and courses within the Masters programme in Intelligent Multimedia at
CPK (taught in English).

3 (one position, open immediately):
A position is open in CPK's work on speech synthesis, which is aimed
at research and development for the next generation of speech
synthesisers. CPK is especially interested in trainable text-to-speech
synthesisers, e.g. systems that can be trained on large textual and
acoustic corpora with minimal manual intervention.


Qualifications:

- Masters or PhD with excellent results from universities or technical
universities in the broad disciplines described in the job profiles;

- 2-3 years of relevant research experience (Applicants having a
relevant Masters background in one of the SMC research areas will be
offered the possibility of enrollment in a PhD program). Experience
should be in at least some of the following areas:
Statistical Pattern Recognition, Dialogue Processing, Dialogue
Modelling, Natural Language Processing, Speech Processing, Signal
Processing or related areas

- Excellent programming skills, in particular C/C++, Java under UNIX
and/or Windows

Additionally, it is considered essential that the applicants can
contribute to the social working atmosphere at CPK by her/his
willingness to:
- Co-operate, work independently and creatively
- Work in an interdisciplinary scientific environment
- Communicate your results internally and externally

The salary level varies with experience, but for a newly graduated PhD
starts at approximately 37,900 Euro gross per year. The annual salary
for a senior lecturer is approx. 45,400 Euro.

A non-Danish senior applicant, who can evidence her/his research by
sufficient qualifications as judged by the evaluation committee may
obtain a 25% tax reduction for a maximum of a seven years' working
period in Denmark. The university will handle an application for this
at the time of application evaluation.

Phonology: Asst Prof at Yale U, CT USA


The Department of Linguistics at Yale University expects to make an
appointment at the level of Assistant Professor in the field of
phonology, effective as of the academic year 2001-2002. Candidates
should be assured of completing the requirements for the Ph.D. by the
summer of 2001 at the latest. In addition to a basic sequence of
phonology courses, the appointee will be expected to be able to teach
both introductory and advanced courses in linguistics, and evidence of
teaching experience will be an advantage.  Background and experience
in linguistic phonetics will also be important, since we hope that the
person appointed will be in a position to take advantage of our
relation to Haskins Laboratories, a unique and invaluable resource for
the study of phonetics and related areas in the Yale community.

The Linguistics Department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill has been authorized to make a tenure-track appointment at the
assistant professor level in phonology/phonetics.  Applicants should
have some special knowledge of information (or cognitive) science.
Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses,
student advising, supervision of student research, and the pursuit of a
vigorous research program. Applicants should send a letter of
introduction, a curriculum vitae, a representative research sample, and
four letters of recommendation to the following address:

passer en format html aussi bien avec iExplorer qu'avec Netscape: c'est
impossible avec SILdoulos et avec IPA Chambers pour un certain nombre de
caractères que les éditeurs html (Dreamweaver, frontpage, AOLpress...)
transforment de manière aléatoire... Merci si vous pouvez m'aider: je suis
