I'm not so sure about this. I think the gap between visceral response and
subsequent reflection is one of the primary phenomena that makes film
'work', and that depending on the intensity of the scene, it can be a
lengthy gap. This also applies to non-violent movies, ie the emotional ebb
and flow of "Shakespeare in Love."
