RESPECT FOR THE EARTH: Can Sustainable Development be made to work in
the real world?
This year's BBC Reith Lectures, starting on 12 April, are on the theme
of sustainable development. The Radio 4 website has summary information
about the programme of lectures, and an e-mail debate which already has
a number of contributions. The lectures will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4
and the BBC World Service, along with web-based online coverage. The
themes are:
Governance - Chris Patten, The Royal Institution, London England
Biodiversity - Tom Lovejoy, The Huntington, Pasadena, Ca. USA
Business - Sir John Browne, Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh Scotland
Health & Population - Gro Harlem Brundtland, C.I.P., Geneva Switzerland
Poverty & Globalisation - Vandana Shiva, The Nehru Museum, Delhi India
Highgrove Roundtable - At the end of the run, the Prince of Wales will
present his own views on the topic in a roundtable discussion with all
five lecturers.
