Consortium for Environmental Education in Medicine (CEEM)
http://www.ceem.org
The Consortium for Environmental Education in Medicine (CEEM) is dedicated
to advancing humans' quality of life by demonstrating the close links
between human health and the environment. CEEM's goal is to make the
relationship of environment to human health an integral part of medical
education. In January 1999, CEEM became a program of Second Nature
(http://www.secondnature.org), a Boston based nonprofit organization
working to help faculty, staff, and administrators at institutions of
higher education to integrate environmental sustainability into their
curriculum and campus operating practices.
CEEM's website houses a newly expanded collection of resources and tools
that support the incorporation of environment and health perspectives into
curricula and programs including:
* materials contributed by National Institute of Environmental Health
Sciences (NIEHS) Environmental and Occupational Medicine Academic Award
recipients (http://www.ceem.org/niehs)
* over 40 course projects using innovative teaching methods to educate
about environment and health
* over 45 syllabi for environmental health and environmental medicine
courses
* over 60 links to organizations and people who are valuable resources for
information about environmental health
* over 360 bibliographic references related to environment and health
* stories of initiatives around environment and health at higher education
institutions
* selected essays and reports about the need for environmental health and
sustainability perspectives in higher
education
The resources on our website help to build the movement to make the
relationship of environment and health a core component of medical
education by allowing those developing new projects and curricula to
benefit from the insights of previous experiences. We encourage your
submissions to the collection of CEEM resources. Information about your
successes and challenges in the fields of environmental health and
environmental medicine will help others learn from your efforts and promote
your leadership in the field.
Please visit the CEEM website and, if you find it to be useful, encourage
your colleagues to visit as well!
Thanks,
Meredith
