That's a little misleading. It's like saying that block IFs were retained
for the sake of those that do not understand GOTOs. On the contrary,
block IFs are present because people understand GOTOs all to well:
and understand that it's desirable to avoid using them. The same goes
for pointers. Those that really understand pointers avoid them whenever
possible. Allocatables are one of the features that permit avoiding
pointers.
