Hmmm ?! (re postings by helbig and mittermayer)
As a newcomer (and a colonial to boot), I'm a little reticent to open with
opinions - more an observation.
I work in a modelling (basic number-crunching) environment where we use
Wintel because the hardware is (much) cheaper (grunt per buck) to supply to
individuals in a large group.
I agree that effort should be rewarded but there is more at issue here than
a 'free' mentality.
Sometimes when many people pay a lot of money they don't get very much for
it - except the proliferation of a beta-testing mentality and a machine that
falls over more often than a drunken sailor.
Linux appears a more stable platform than the NT4 (and previously 95b) that
I have been using.
Lahey and ISS (Interactor/Winteractor - a UK firm) now supply some tools. I
am looking forward to trying them.
Is this not so? .....am I dilusional ? ..... have I wasted my money ?
.....(is motherhood a good thing ?)
