The text editor BBEdit will let you do exactly this. I believe BBEdit is
only available on Macs but it's an excellent editor and in these days of
mac emulators for Unix/PCs it might be less of a problem. There is also a
free (lite) version of BBEdit which I *think* retains the file compare. See
www.barebones.com.
