How about a few hundred or a few thousand or more? This can easily happen
in certain common misconfigurations of vacation. Typical scenario, a list
message is handled by vacation, which replies to the list, which is
redistributed back to vacation. In a correct configuration of vacation, it
recognizes that it has recently already sent an automatic reply to
comp-fortran-90 and that's the end of it, but there are a number of
relatively easy ways for that part to be "broken" so vacation keeps sending
automatic replies and the whole process goes into an infinite loop that
isn't broken until someone manually intervenes or one or the other of the
systems breaks down under the load. I personally have encountered
"vacation wars" running into the tens of thousands of automatic messages.
