WWW, 3D, multimedia, cyberspace, computer graphics, CSCW, virtual working,

The British Computer Society is sponsoring an international four-day 
meeting on digital content creation to take place in Bradford, 
10-13 April 2000. 
 
There is substantial current interest in new media, content 
creation, multimedia, and media analysis, brought about by technology
convergence, developments in the Internet, broadcasting, film, and 
television. 

On 10 January 2000, America Online and Time Warner merged in a
£220 billion deal to create the world's first fully integrated
media and communications company for the Internet Century - and
the world's fourth largest corporation (following Microsoft,
General Electric, and Cisco Systems).  Gerald Levin, chief 
executive, said: "The digital revolution has already begun to 
create unprecedented and instantaneous access to every form of 
media and to unleash immense possibilities for economic growth, 
human understanding and creative expression.  AOL Time Warner 
will lead this transformation".  Steve Case, chief executive of
America Online said: "New media has truly come of age.  We've
always said that America Online's mission is to make the Internet
as central to people's lives as the telephone and television,
and even more valuable.  By joining forces with Time Warner,
we will fundamentally change the way people get information,
communicate with others, buy products and are entertained -
providing far-reaching benefits for our customers and 
shareholders".

With this example of convergence, it is clear that digital content
creation will have a major role to play in the future.  This
Conference examines the challenges and opportunities in this
exciting area.
  
Pre-Conference courses run 10-11 April, the Conference runs 12-13 April -
in the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television.

A Keynote Panel at the Conference will be on - 

"THE MANAGEMENT OF DIGITALLY CREATED CONTENT COLLECTIONS"

This Keynote Panel will cover the management of the large volumes of 
data resulting from digitally created content in academic libraries, 
audio, film and TV applications.  The source of the data can be 
photographs, graphic art, animation, special effects, audio, video 
and text.

The Panel will consist of:

This is summary information on the British Computer Society Conference to 
be held 10-13 April.  We have a number of co-sponsoring organisations, 
including Computer Graphics Society, Virtual Reality Society, and
Media Tech.

The Conference will be held in the prestigious National Museum of
Photography, Film & Television in Bradford (close by the University).
A major £16 Million expansion for an Electronic Gallery in the Museum
was completed last year ("The Imaging Frontiers" Project).  Thus it is 
very appropriate to have a Conference with this theme in the Museum and 
in Bradford.
