I have always wondered how much of the French structuralism and
post-structuralism has been truly assimilated, other than neologisms and
critical jargon, it seems that much of it has been left undigested, and a
great deal of it has been ignored. Time and time again I have read of poets
saying that they have been influenced by the French and German critics, but
I do not see it in their work. Perhaps we might have examples of where Brit
poets have been directly influenced? I always thought that architecture from
Voysey to Jencks was more important in the development of the
practice/theory of modernism and postmodernism --the other fields have been
on the whole derivative and played second fiddle to the continental
movements --a case of translation or interpretation rather than primary
development.
