Advanced Survey Analysis
a 3-day practical course using STATA by Andrew Pickles
10-12th April 2000 at the University of Manchester
Course fee - £400.00 (£300.00 for academic participants)
Course objectives
To enable students to: assess a range of survey designs and
corresponding data analysis requirements;analyse a substantial
proportion of surveys likely to be encountered in practice; and
understand the principles behind design based and model based
inference
Day 1 Introduction and Model Based Inference
Summary of designs and terminology
Model Based Inference: theory and examples
- probability models and likelihood estimation
- multilevel/random effects models for clustered data
- random effects models for multiphase data selection
models
Day 2 Design Based Survey analysis using Stata
- specifying the sample design
- primary sampling units and multi-stage sampling
- Estimating Equations and Variance Estimation
- Huberizing, Thompson and Horwitz , Jackknife and
Bootstrap
- analysis of clustered/multistage data
