EORTC Lady Grierson Research Fellowship
Quality of Life Research in Oncology
The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC)
is an international non profit organization whose aims are to promote
and co-ordinate clinical cancer research in Europe. The ultimate goal of
the EORTC is to improve the standard of cancer treatment by facilitating
the translation of scientific discoveries into state-of-the-art
treatment. These aims are achieved through the multinational
multidisciplinary efforts of scientists, clinicians and social
scientists across Europe.
The EORTC announces an award in the form of a ONE YEAR FELLOWSHIP to be
held at the EORTC Quality of Life Unit. The Fellowship has been
generously endowed by Sir Ronald Grierson, Chairman of the EORTC
Foundation, in memory of his late wife. It is his wish that it be
dedicated to fostering research into improving the quality of life of
patients with cancer. This award is intended for young European
scientists who want to take the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art
quality of life evaluation in cancer clinical trials. Ideal candidates
would be medical doctors, statisticians or social scientists working in
the area of oncology with expertise in quality of life research.
The research project would involve assisting in the collection and
analysis of quality of life data from oncology clinical trials. The
Fellowship also offers an opportunity to undertake cross-cultural
analysis and present results at major European conferences.
The Fellow will be supported by a team of multidisciplinary researchers,
in a dedicated Quality of Life Unit providing an all round experience of
quality of life research within a cancer clinical trial setting.
