The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) is a
non-departmental public body whose policy framework and funding is set
by Government. The Council is responsible for allocating over £4billion
each year to universities and colleges in England in support of teaching
and research.
The primary function of the Analytical Services Group (ASG) is to
support the Council's activities with data, facts and analysis. We seek
a senior analyst to manage the Council's data collection, information
processing and analysis who may (depending on experience) be required to
act as the Head of the ASG.
ASG is a part of the Policy Directorate of the Council and works very
closely with colleagues directly responsible for developing policies on
the funding of teaching and research. There are about 20 staff in ASG,
mostly made up of statisticians, mathematicians and Operational Research
(OR) specialists.
You must have at least a postgraduate qualification in Statistics,
Mathematics or OR with evidence of considerable work experience in one
of these areas.
ASG has standardised its computing work on SAS. You should have
considerable expertise in writing and managing software applications.
You will be expected to be hands-on in respect of computing.
You must be experienced in managing a group of professional staff and
working alongside senior policymakers.
