Dear Eric.
We send our CSF samples suspected of nvCJD to the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, London. However, blood samples are processed on the routine analysers.
Hope this is helpful.

What policies do other labs have regarding the handling of CSF protein and glucose in patients where the differential diagnosis is nvCJD? Do people try and discriminate zero, low and high risk? Would we have to dispose of one of our Beckman LX20 analysers if we put infected CSF through it?
The only national guidelines we have seen here seem to refer only to the decontamination/incineration of surgical instruments.
