Before Christmas some of you kindly replied to my query about inhibin B
and one or two asked me to let them know if I found out where it could
be measured. I am not sure which of your replies were circulated to the
mail base, so here is a brief summary. Apologies to colleagues for any
inadvertent errors on my part.
You identified the following four locations (in no particular order).
1.Pat Crofton at Department of Clin Chem, Royal Hospital for Sick
Children, Edinburgh
Telephone no - 0131 536 0403 is using with the assay for research at the
moment. She is not yet able to provide an assay service.
2. Professor Ledger's lab at the University Hospital, Sheffield (tel.
0114226 8343) also is involved with Inhibin B measurement and can
provide an assay service. However for operational reasons (staff
changes, etc.) they probably can't provide a fast turn around at
present. Tina Anobile was my contact. (Best to phone first.)
3. Prof. Nigel Groome at the School of Biological and Molecular
Sciences, Oxford Brookes University, Headington, Oxford has an
interesting web site about inhibins (http://www.brookes.ac.uk/inhibin).
His lab primarily does research and does not offer an assay service, as
I understand it. However he did pass my query to:
4. Oxford Bio-Innovations. They are the manufacturer of Inhibin B kits
and they supply the kits to the above centres. Lisa Mynheer, their
operations director, informs me they are considering offering an
analytical service themselves in the near future (with appropriate
expert interpretation) if there is sufficient demand. I am sure Lisa
would welcome any enquiries. Her address is:

in reply to more recent mailings to Andrew Taylor:
We have operated a combined biochemistry/haematology sample reception
for a couple of years, along the lines of that described by Tim
Reynolds, except we do not yet have ward ordering. We feel it works
well. Even if we wanted to, we would find it virtually impossible to
revert to separate booking-in. The increase in our current staffing
level would be prohibitive.
As part of a new computer implementation we are encouraging microbiology
to join the club - watch this e-space.
Happy new millennium
