This nurse is not seeking a mere numerical reference
range for PSA. She is after the probability of
malignancy in her friend. As in most cases, we lack
the full clinical history and examination details, we
are not in the best position to draw any useful
conclusion and will leave this to the requesting
doctor. If as a matter of courtesy, the nurse was
given the numerical reference range without a full
educational background about PSA and prostatic
disease, she may draw the wrong conclusion herself. It
seems prudent to gently tell her our dilemma in such
circumstances.
regards.
