extensive work on the comparative morphology of Haversian canals has
been done in the 20's by J. Matyas in Budapest. His papers are
written in German, but if you are interested I can send you copies of
these interesting studies.

Haversian canals are not synonymous to foramina nutricia, but form
tiny central channels within the osteones (series of concentric tubes
composed by bony matrix and bone cells) of the compact bone. They
contain arterioles and capillaries providing the blood supply of
bony tissue.
