::::Sigh::::::
Ethnotaxonomies are just that...ethnoscience, which isn't the same as Western
Science. Neither better nor worse, simply different. Taxonomy exists (or
more specifically, binomial nomenclature) so that zooarch, vertebrate palaeo,
zoology, botany, etc can discuss an organism with everyone knowing what is
being discussed. There isn't really any controversy about whether or not
accurate names are needed. They are. There certainly is controversy
concerning how we determine those names. To advocate doing zooarch, or any
other biological based study, while eschewing the need for accuracy, removes
zooarch from the realm of western science, and relegates it to simply another
ethnoscience.
