Bryony Coles, Univ Exeter, is collecting evidence for
beaver (Castor fiber) in Britain, from contexts dated to
the Late Glacial to medieval, and later if there are any. I
am interested in early imports as well as indigenous
beaver. Evidence from natural as well as archaeologial
contexts is relevant, and bone used for artefacts as well
as unaltered - so far I have data on about 250 individuals,
and I suspect there are still quite a few more. I would
also like to hear of continental finds where beaver seem to
have been particularly significant. Thanks to all those
who have already sent in data.
