Hi
We are finalising the assessment package for our course for new
lecturing staff and have been debating the issue of whether (and if
so how) to assess staff on their classroom practice. The University
has a well-developed system for the peer observation of teaching
but this process is confidential and there is no guarantee of
consistency in the feedback.
I would be interested to hear how anyone else deals with this issue
in relation to validated or accredited courses for lecturing staff.
Do you assess 'classroom competence'?
If so how to you set the standard and how do you ensure
consistency?
How many different observations of teaching are required?
Any thoughts or observations gratefully received.
Thanks in anticipation.
Mark
