Engineering the Millenium
A Newcomen Society Meeting at the Science Museum, London
19 -21 September 2000
The way we have lived during the last thousand years has been completely
altered by changes brought about by engineering. In this meeting a team of
fifteen leading historians will, by considering technologies such as
computers, food, power, and railways, explore how society has been changed
by technology.
The meeting will mainly take place in the Science Museum, London. In
addition there will be a public lecture by Tim Hunkin at the Royal
Institution, gallery tours of the Science Museum, a narrow boat trip (with
lunch) along the Grand Union Canal from the famous Hanwell Viaduct to
Brentford, and the conference dinner will be held at Ognisko Polish Club in
Exhibition Road.
Registration fee is 90 pounds sterling
