Operational Research Society:
Joint One Day Meeting (Simulation Study Group, Defence Study
Group)
Principals and Practices of Simulation in Industry and Defence
Monday 4th December 2000, 13:30-16:30
Whittle Room, DERA Farnborough
Simulation modelling has been practised in both industry and
defense for
many years and has addressed many problems. Looking at the
techniques
employed in each of these areas, one might take the possibly
naive view
that two types of simulation exist. In industry models tend to be
developed then discarded after use. In defense models are built for
longevity. A closer look at these broad application areas suggests
that
there are some practises employed in industry that might be of
interest to
defense and vice versa. This meeting represents the first of
hopefully
several cross-application area meetings. The meeting will have four
presentations from practitioners: two introductory talks from
representatives of industry and defense, and two application talks
from
business process modelling and from logistics. The meeting will
end with
an informal discussion where attendees will be encouraged to
debate around
issues that have arisen during the meeting.
