In 1979 the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy issued a "Limited
facsimile edition prepared directly from the copy which forms
part of the Institution's historical collection" of
The Miners Dictionary, by William Hooson.
MDCCXLVII ( = 1747 ?)
It is more like a glossary of terms than a true dictionary, and is
based particularly on "Observations made by the Author from
more than forty years practice and experience at the Mines in
the High and Low Peak in Derbyshire, Shropshire, South and
North Wales and the North of England", the emphasis being
thus on terms "more especially of Lead Mines" .
Sadly, thinking of Roger Gosling's query, it makes no mention
of "zyghyr" !
Whatever "zyghyr" is, the first syllable indicates that there must
be two linked things, like the vertical strokes in the letter H.
