JOINING UP TO LIFE-LONG LEARNING: The scope for Information and Library
Services
Loughborough University
13-14 June 2000
LISU's Summer Seminar addresses the topic of Life-Long Learning and the
part that information and library services play in its realisation. The
focus will be on the management of activity and in particular, strategies,
resources, impact and performance parameters.
The concept of life-long learning [no capitals] is nothing new. People of
all ages have been learning new knowledge and skills for work and for
recreation for a very long time, indeed. Now, however, we have a Government
initiative that gives Life-Long Learning greater prominence and there is
additional scope for development.
How do we develop strategies that are sound and activities that are
relevant and meaningful?
Importantly, how do we demonstrate the contribution to LLL quantitatively
and qualitatively to demonstrate best value and target resources optimally?
What performance indicators do we need? These, and other issues will be
explored in this Seminar in which contributors will discuss general
principles and describe examples of what can be achieved. The
cross-sectoral character of the topic makes it relevant to a range of
managers.
