Joining Up to Life-Long Learning: The Scope for Information and Library
Services 

LISU, Loughborough: Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th June 2000.

LISU's next Seminar will address the topic of Life-Long Learning and the
part that information and library services play in its realisation. Put it
in your diary NOW!
The concept of life-long learning [no capitals] is nothing new. People of
all ages have been learning new knowledge and skills for work and for
recreation for a very long time, indeed. Now, however, we have a Government
initiative that gives Lifelong Learning greater prominence and added scope
for resourcing and development.
What impact on libraries does/will this have? What impact on LLL do/will
libraries have? The potential across the whole information spectrum is
considerable and was recognised as such in the recent Report of the
Education and Libraries Task Group - Empowering the Learning Community.
How do we develop strategies that are sound and activities that are
relevant and meaningful?
Importantly, how do we demonstrate the contribution to LLL quantitatively
and qualitatively to demonstrate best value and target resources optimally?
What performance indicators do we need? 

These, and other issues will be explored in this Seminar in which
contributors will discuss general principles and describe examples of what
has, and can be achieved.
