It sounds like your operating system has been set up to think that you
are somewhere other than in the UK.
Back in 1994 when we first experienced the change from BST to GMT, the
date of the changeover was decided very late (to bring us in line with
the rest of Europe?) and something similar to what you describe happened
to us - except we didn't know that the system could automatically change
the system time from BST to GMT!
