We have just 2 at Leeds - which were purchased for our "Reception
Desk" because of the closeness to a 3M barrier. At the time I was
told they only needed telnet access, and was not myself involved in
the purchase as the fabric office found a cheap deal and did it at the
same time as the 3M screens.
However, I now find staff using this equipment in Windows, when it is
really too small for intensive use, and I doubt if I can upgrade to a
modern PC and NT as the refresh rates will probably be inadequate,
and I don't know about drivers either.
So my word of advice would be that they are great for space but
make sure you buy lasting technology which is suitable for long
periods of use by a member of staff, and has good visibility at an
angle. Re speakers: not sure why you want this, but surely at an issue
counter, the noise could be unbearable? Or are you thinking of blind
customers?

We are intending to get some flat LCD screens for our circulation desks shortly - never had them before. With Millennium Circ in mind, we
are also thinking it would be good to have them with built in speakers. Does anyone have experience of purchasing/using LCD screens? Any
recommendations or cautions would be welcome.
Thanks,
Anne
