Dear all,
At the end of November the Mailbase list service was transferred
to Jiscmail at Rutherford Appleton Lab; consequently to send mail to
the Geophysics list it is now necessary to send it to:
[log in to unmask]
(instead of @mailbase.ac.uk as before)
To send email to the list owners only, for instance to request permission
to send out a message containing advertising, you must send it to
[log in to unmask]
More information can be found on the website, www.jiscmail.ac.uk
but for most users there is no need to change anything except the
email addresses above.
Please remember that the Geophysics mailing list should be used for
communications of interest to the geophysical community and specifically
members of the British Geophysical Association. It should not be used
for advertising (apart from geophysics jobs and studentships) without
the list owners' permission, and postings should be in plain text and
short. If you want to post a long message or one including fancy text
or diagrams, it is better to put it on a website (yours or the Geophysics
list website) and send a short plain-text mail containing the URL
and a brief summary.
The list website is at:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/geophysics.html
(please update your bookmarks)
Under the heading "Files associated with your list" you will find the
BGA home web page and sundry sub-pages. Unfortunately the Jiscmail
system has so far robustly resisted my attempts to update these since
the transfer (I'm about to try again; but this is why I had not emailed
the list sooner to announce the changes). I anticipate getting this
sorted out shortly, and welcome additional web pages, for instance with
meeting programmes for BGA-sponsored meetings or sessions at larger
meetings.
Regards
Sheila Peacock
list co-owner
