I think we need a UK-wide or even UK and Eire wide FISH to develop
information standards. There are regional differences in archaeological
remains and sequences across these islands, but they do not relate to
modern politcal boundaries. E-conferences involving a wide range of
people are clearly one of the best ways to generate a wide ranging
discussion involving many information standards users, but when they take
place there must also be opportunity for non-email users to be involved.
Gillian Grayson asked of comments on membership and frequency of meetings
of the Forum. I couldn't find a list of the current membership on the
FISHEN website, but I guess it ought to be representatives of the Royal
Commissions, HS/EH/Cadw, ALGAO, mda, ADS, CBA and cognate organisations in
any country I've missed, and maybe others. Physical meetings of the
formal forum need not be very frequent, but could take place within a
small email list. There would be a wider, less formal membership through
this list.
