The Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances (RTECS)
provides access to toxicological information on over 133,000
chemicals. This information is extracted from the open scientific
literature and is compiled, maintained, and updated by the National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Toxicological data is
recorded in a format developed by the RTECS staff and arranged
in alphabetical order by prime chemical name. The toxicity data
recorded includes information on primary irritation, mutagenic
effects, reproductive effects, tumorigenic effects, acute toxicity,
other multiple dose toxicity, specific numeric toxicity values such
as LD50, LC50 and more, identification of species studied and
route of administration used, the bibliographic source to indicate
actual studies cited. No attempt has been made to evaluate the
studies cited in RTECS. The user has the responsibility of
making such assessments.
The NIOSHTIC Database is a bibliographic database including
over 204,000 records from literature in the field of occupational
safety and health . Because NIOSH examines all aspects of
adverse effects experienced by workers, much of the information
contained in NIOSHTIC has been selected from sources that
do not have a primary occupational safety and health orientation.
Subject coverage includes behavioral sciences, biochemistry,
physiology and metabolism, biological hazards, chemistry,
control technology, education and training, epidemiological
studies of isease/disorders, ergonomics, hazardous waste,
health physics, occupational medicine pathology and histology,
safety and toxicology.
