Are you planning to use British Crime Survey data?
Would you be interested attending a BCS training
day?
The Crime Surveys Section of Home Office Research & Statistics
has deposited British Crime Survey (BCS) data at the Essex
University Data Archive. For some time we have been running
training days for those interested in using the BCS data for
criminological research. Further information about the BCS is
available at http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/bcs2000/bcs2000.htm
and also by searching for British Crime Survey using the search
facility at http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk.
Interest in British Crime Survey data is growing and we have
decided to advertise the availability of these training days more
widely. The next training day will take place in London on Tuesday
14 March. The number of spaces is limited and if you would like to
attend or register an interest in attending future training days
please complete the attached form and send it back to us by
February 11.
The training will assume some basic knowledge of the analysis
package SPSS for Windows. The day will cover:
* The background to the BCS, its history and methodology
* How the BCS is used to count crime
* The structure of the BCS datafiles
* Key information required needed to analyse BCS datafiles
Please give any details of any special requirements needed (eg.
diet, mobility/access).
The meeting will start at 11.00am in Room G15 at the Home Office
in 50 Queen Anne's Gate, London (opposite the park entrance of St
James's Park tube station). Lunch will be provided and the meeting
will close before 4pm.
