REPORT: Writers Forum Workshop 11th March 2000
We weren't locked out of the room this time. (Overheard before the start:
"Please find the key; I don't think I could stand them doing that in the bar
again all afternoon". Who said poetry doesn't change the world?) But some of
us were locked in briefly as we attempted to return to the bar.
Lawrence Upton started by reading the last 4 pages of "Networking", thereby
completing his staged reading of the entire piece, the third in the set now
called "Easy Huming". "huming / queuing", the first two, is available from
Writers Forum. "networking" is unpublished.
Sean Bonney read a piece sourced from Artaud.
Adrian Clarke returned to a section from "Just deserts" to try out how it
sounded, as I understood it. Then he read from his ongoing "Skeletal
sonnets".
Wayne Clements played an excellent tape. This was partly involved in a
discussion of how one might approach the performance of his visual texts,
recently published by Writers Forum and others also included in the delayed
Spad # 4. Following that 2 of his texts were attempted by Cobbing and
Upton - the discussion didn't reach a final conclusion though much was
learned
Adrian Clarke, Lawrence Upton and Sean Bonney performed Upton's CLANK, a 3
voice semantic text
Doreen King's "tunes that sparrows knew" (ISBN 0 86162 Writers Forum) was
launched with a performance of 3 double pages by Cobbing and Upton, two of
which were probably worth hearing again, but alas it wasn't recorded
Doreen's daughter showed some of her visuals
A young man whose name I didn't catch read some texts
Jennifer Pike performed what she called "a light love song"
The workshop adjourned until 25 March 2000 at 3.30 for 4 Upstairs,
Churchills, Mount Pleasant, London WC1
Guinness was drunk.
