Dear Colleague
Now that the Consultation has been completed, we would like to thank
those of you who participated. As last year, we found the
exercise very helpful in shaping the development of the Subject
Tables. There was something of a misunderstanding early on caused by our
reference to UCAS course codes but we rapidly clarified that we have always
used HESA data and will be doing so again this year.
This will be confirmed when the full HESA datasets for each
institution are despatched shortly. Our apologies for this
misunderstanding.
The responses fell broadly into three categories:
1 Completion of the mapping proforma for your institution (the vast
majority).
2 Comments on wider issues concerning the methodology, many also
accompanied by completion of the proforma. A number of these comment
were very helpful and will be either considered for inclusion in
the next edition or referred to the Advisory Group.
3 Finally, there were a few who saw the Consultation as
an opportunity to restate their opposition to any attempt at ranking
or comparing universities.
Many thanks for your constructive comments, criticism and
advice at what we recognise to be a busy time for you all - it is
much appreciated.
Regards
Bernard Kingston
