Happy new year to one and all!
Has anyone else seen the QAA consultation paper on institutional
subscriptions?
I may be being pedantic here, but I find it astounding that a leading and
authoritative HE body can make a statement that HE FTE student numbers are
not available from the HESA student return!
The QAA document Para 10 on page 3 says quite categorically:
'The HESA student return ... does not count FTEs. There are no FTE numbers
collected consistently across the UK. '
This statement is repeated elsewhere in the document.
Now aside from the fact that the Field 74 - Student FTE in the HESA student
return is abbreviated to STULOAD which might lead a casual observer to
overlook its significance, isn't it amazing that over 5 years after the HESA
return was introduced there can be such ignorance still around? Can anyone
enlighten us as to why QAA are so adamant that FTEs are not available? Is
there something about its use across the different countries that means it
cannot be used? It is supposed to be compulsory but if QAA say it doesn't
exist perhaps we can all stop bothering with it?
