I am sorry that I quoted a wrong reference from offhand. I had a similar
situation as Chris has now. This was in a asian second trimester
pregnant with highly raised CRP and ESR. To deal this patient problem, I
digged the medline thoroughly and I got few references which quoted upto
20 mg/L CRP as normal upto third trimester in that ethnic
population. (There is evidence for the ethnic variation in CRP
reference in pregnancy - I could not see the soundness of the evidence
as I managed to see only abstracts & could not see the original
articles). I may be holding those particular reference(s) somewhere. I
will pass it (them) on when I find. Meanwhile, I can pass on the
references, I found in the medline:
Reference levels of APP in healthy Zairean women in the reproductive
age group. J Trop Med Hyg. 1994;97(4): 239-43
C-reactive protein in normal pregnancy.
Obstet Gynecol 1991; 77(2): 176-80
CRP & serum AAP in pregnancy & labour.
Brit.J.Obstet. Gynaecol. 1990;97(8): 725-30.
Hope this is useful
Regards
Vivek
