Thyroid function does almost invariably return to normal after discontinuing
lithium therapy. The time back to normality is variable (as is the time to
dysfunction on commencement of treatment). We have seen a patient whose
TFT's returned to normal 8 weeks after stopping lithium, and the
endocrinologists are quite happy for her to re-start her lithium.

Subject: Lithium induced thyroid dysfunction
Could anybody tell me to what extent Li induced thyroid
dysfunction is
reversible if treatment is discontinued and if so how long
does it
take to occur.
