Call for Abstracts!
Electronic submission of abstracts for poster presentation, oral communication and the Bayer Award are now welcomed through the website. Poster abstracts must be received by 12th January 2001 but how about getting them in early to save the last minute panic!

The Annual Scientific Meeting and Exhibition of the Association of Clinical Biochemists will take place between the 30th April and 4th May 2001 in a brand new conference and exhibition centre, ExCel, in London Docklands, adjacent to the Royal Victoria Docks.
The Scientific Committee have put together an excellent programme of Plenary Lectures and Symposia with a focus on Nutrition and Clinical Biochemistry. Other symposia include New Tools in Clinical Biochemistry, Testing Outside the Laboratory, Mass Spectrometry in Clinical Biochemistry, Drugs and Toxicology, Drugs, Nutrition and Sport. Haematology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics are well represented with afternoon seminars. In addition to the formal scientific programme of lectures there are ample opportunities to particpate in discussion groups at the morning and afternoon workshops.

CPD points for the RCPath and IBMS will be available. The Invitation to Participate is available in electronic format, together with Registration Details on the website.
A major exhibition of general and medical laboratory equipment, reagents, information technology and pharmaceuticals will be held between 1st and 3rd May.
The social programme has been organised to allow delegates to participate in traditional Focus social events or to take advantage of the attractions of London, such as 'Fly the London Eye', 'Jack the Ripper Haunts', Theatre Visits etc. Thursday night will see a grand conference Banquet held in the historic setting of 'The Brewery' which was built in 1782 and was so impressive that it was visited by King George and Queen Charlotte in 1787!

ExCel, the new Conference Centre is also easily accessible from central London Train and Coach Stations and Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. There is good road transport access, but why bring your car when you won't want to use it all week, and parking is expensive in London!
