We have a baby (male) who has developed hypercalcaemia and hypophosphataemia
during the neonatal period.
He was born on the 15th September, near term. The main results are given in
the following table.
<<...>>
A spot urine on 20 Sept had a calcium concentration of 3.38 mmol/l and
creatinine of 844 umol/l. Serum creatinine is 45 umol/l.
Urine phosphate on Vitros 250 was <1.42 mmol/l (urine protocol) and <0.13
(serum protocol)
Blood glucose concentration is proving difficult to maintain.
The paediatician concerned has supplied the following information:
"The only active management so far has been IV dextrose. We have started
phosphate supplementation today. He is small for gestation and mildly
asphyxiated, he has some proteinuria/haematuria and mildly elevated GGT. ??
role of hypoxia asphyxia ?? congenital CMV"
Any comments would be appreciated.
