Hi there!
Does anyone measure total protein in synovial fluid?
Is it of any value routinely - Kaplan and Pesce says "...the synovial fluid
total protein concentration is not used to distinguish noninflammatory from
inflammatory fluids, since the leucocyte count is used to make that distinction.
Thus total protein is not included in the routine examination of synovial
fluids..."
If you do measure it (routinely or otherwise), what method do you use? On an
automated analyser, does the high viscosity of the sample lead to problems of
short sampling?
Many thanks for any replies.
